How to get your label printer printing 4×6 (100×150mm) labels properly, and what to do when it doesn’t.
Printing 4×6 labels
1. Tell your printer it has 4×6 labels in it
You only do this once.
- Windows: open Settings, then Bluetooth & devices, then Printers & scanners. Choose your label printer, then Printing preferences. Set the paper (sometimes called “stock” or “label size”) to 4×6 in or 100×150mm, whichever matches your labels, and orientation to Portrait.
- Mac: in the print box, open Paper Size and pick 4×6 or 100×150mm. If it isn’t there, choose Manage Custom Sizes and add one: 4 × 6 in (or 100 × 150mm), with all margins set to 0.
2. Print at Actual size
In the print box, pick Actual size. Not “Fit”. Actual.
- Chrome and Edge: under More settings, set Scale to Default or 100, not “Fit to page” or “Fit to printable area”.
- Adobe Acrobat or Reader: under Page Sizing & Handling, choose Actual size.
- Mac Preview: set Scale to 100%.
3. Portrait, always
LabelFixy already stands every label upright on a portrait page. Keep the print box on Portrait, and don’t let it auto-rotate.
4×6 or 100×150mm?
4×6 inches is 101.6×152.4mm, a hair bigger than 100×150mm. LabelFixy leaves a small margin round every label, so the same PDF prints properly on either.
When it doesn’t print right
The label prints across two labels, or skips one
Your printer needs to measure its labels again (calibrate). On many printers, such as Rollo and Munbyn, you hold the feed button until it feeds a label or two. On others, like Zebra, there’s a Calibrate option in the printer’s utility or driver. Your printer’s manual will say which. Do it again whenever you change label rolls.
The label comes out tiny, or cut off
Either the scale isn’t Actual size, or the paper size in your printer’s settings isn’t 4×6 (100×150mm). Check both steps above.
Adobe Acrobat asks for A4, or prints on the wrong size
In Acrobat’s print box, untick Choose paper source by PDF page size. Acrobat will then use the label size set in your printer’s settings.
It prints blank, or the barcode comes out garbled
Some printer drivers struggle with some PDFs. In Adobe Acrobat or Reader, open the print box, choose Advanced and tick Print As Image.
It comes out sideways
Check that both the print box and your printer’s settings are on Portrait.
Questions
Does my label get uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser, and it even works offline once the page has loaded. See our privacy policy.
Which labels work?
Any PDF with a shipping label on a bigger page: Vinted, eBay, Etsy, Depop, Royal Mail, Evri, InPost, USPS, UPS, FedEx and more. If one doesn’t come out right, email us and tell us which marketplace or courier it’s from. Please don’t send the label itself; it has someone’s address on it.
What’s the difference between free and Pro?
Free makes 3 labels a day, one PDF at a time, from the first page, keeping the largest label on it. Pro is a one-off US$9.99: unlimited labels, a pile of PDFs at once into one PDF to print, every page and every label on a page. See pricing.
I bought Pro but can’t sign in
- Use the email you used at checkout. It’s on your Stripe receipt.
- Check your spam folder for the code. It can take a minute to arrive.
- Codes last 10 minutes. If yours has run out, ask for a new one.
- Still stuck? Email hello@labelfixy.com.
Can I use Pro on another computer?
Yes. Sign in there with the same email. Each sign-in lasts 30 days and then renews itself.
What does “Needs matching” mean?
Some international labels are addressed to a shipping hub, like “JFK HUB”, instead of the buyer, so you can’t tell from the label which order it’s for. Pro flags those, plus labels that are just a picture with no readable text. They’re left out of the PDF until you tick Include.
What’s the small line under each label?
That’s Pro’s reference stamp: the last 4 digits of the tracking number, the label’s number in the batch (like “3 of 12”), and an optional note you type in. It goes in the margin under the label, never on the barcode. You can switch it off.
